Seeing is Believing: Hear From Our Keratoconus Patients

“I wish I had found Dr. Rubinfeld 10 years ago.”
Like most people, I had read about the risks and pain of Epithelium-Off cross-linking and looked for someone able to perform an effective procedure without scraping off the surface of my cornea. I found a doctor who claimed good success with epithelium on cross-linking and had the procedure he did. I wound up having it repeated in both eyes for a total of 4 failed cross-linking procedures and still my keratoconus got worse. After each of these procedures I was in pain for days and, as a professional editor, I got more and more worried that I was going to lose my sight despite treatment. This fear exacerbated several of my pre-existing medical conditions, including anxiety and depression. After seeing so many doctors, I felt there was no one who could help me.
I found my way to Dr. Roy Rubinfeld, the inventor of the only Epithelium-On cross-linking treatment shown highly effective in large clinical trials . He performed corneal reshaping and then the epithelium-On treatment that he developed and I was back to my normal activities the next day. No bandage contact lens, and no opioid pain killers.
Dr. Rubinfeld is kind, professional, and extremely detail-oriented. He makes sure you fully understand and agree to every treatment being performed, so there are no surprises. His staff is amazingly kind and work tirelessly to ensure your 100% comfort throughout the procedure. I wish I had found Dr. Rubinfeld 10 years ago.
IF YOU HAVE KERATOCONUS, BEWARE. If a doctor claims they can do effective Epithelium-On cross-linking, ask them to show you proof in their scientific publications, not Google reviews.
“I Waited to Treat my Keratoconus. Here’s What Happened.“
Over a decade ago and early on in my keratoconus journey, one of my eyes needed a corneal transplant. Unfortunately, afterwards, a minor trauma caused me to lose eyesight in that eye. (most people don’t know this can happen with corneal transplants).
For me, my goal was to make sure that I protect my vision in my one good eye at all costs.
My only good eye has been in contact lenses for years, and I got by. As my disease progressed, my doctors fitted me with stronger and stronger contact lenses. The only option I thought was available was to monitor my keratoconus and hope it didn’t progress further to need a corneal transplant.
Recently, my eyesight has noticeably degraded. Confronting the reality of another corneal transplant, I sought out any other alternatives available.
Fortunately, I was referred by my corneal specialist to Dr. Rubinfeld who was able to save the vision in my one good eye using the non-invasive Epithelium On Crosslinking procedure he developed.
“To everyone with keratoconus don’t do what I did! Contacts do NOT stop the progression of keratoconus.”

“He and his wonderful, caring team were amazing. The day after the Epithelium-On procedure I had no pain, irritation, or blurriness.”

“The day after, I had no pain. I highly recommend Dr. Rubinfeld and his cutting-edge techniques to treat keratoconus.”
In 2021, I was diagnosed with keratoconus, and had epithelium-off cross-linking performed on my right eye. The post-procedure healing was excruciating and incapacitating and took about a month. I was referred to Dr. Rubinfeld for epithelium-on cross-linking which he invented and CK corneal reshaping. I was impressed with the care I received from Dr. Rubinfeld and his staff and absolutely amazed at the healing time after having both my eyes done with these advanced procedures. The day after, I had no pain. I highly recommend Dr. Rubinfeld and his cutting-edge techniques to treat keratoconus. As a scientific researcher I always do my research. Other people with keratoconus should too.

“I had cross linking done twice. Unfortunately, the first time wasn’t through Dr. Rubinfeld and it was absolutely terrible.”
I had cross linking done twice. Unfortunately, the first time wasn’t through Dr. Rubinfeld and it was absolutely terrible. They scraped the epithelium off my cornea and the pain and slow recovery was awful. The second time was with Dr. Rubinfeld who invented the new Epithelium-On treatment (look him up) and “WOW”- what a difference! He and his team are amazing and make you feel like family. You won’t be disappointed. I can even drive better at night!
“…his advanced crosslinking and CK treatment improved my vision and allowed me to join the military”
When I was diagnosed with keratoconus, I saw a crosslinking expert who referred me to Dr. Rubinfeld who had invented a safer, less painful, way of doing crosslinking. Not only did this stop my fast vision loss, but his advanced crosslinking and CK treatment improved my vision and allowed me to join the military which I wasn’t able to do before finding Dr. Rubinfeld. For others with keratoconus, do your research. I was back to my usual activities the day after treatment.
